And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; … they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. (Mark 16:17-18).

The Lord Jesus never exaggerated; He spoke absolute reality. What He said in our opening verse, is something you should consciously demonstrate or prove, knowing that the one who said it never lied to anyone. You’re to lay hands on the sick for them to receive healing. You have the ability to do so in the Name of Jesus. The Lord Jesus would be remiss to ask you to do something you couldn’t do or for which He hasn’t enabled you. He said in Matthew 10:8, “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils …” This is for every believer in Christ. Step out in faith and take healing and health to the people in your world and the regions beyond.

Someone might lament, “When I pray for people, they get healed, but when I get sick, I’m not able to help myself.” Many have found themselves in this dilemma. It is similar to what happened to Elisha who was so anointed of God but died sick. In 2 Kings 13:20-21, some men were about to bury a man when they spotted some raiders. 

Hastily, they tossed the corpse into the sepulchre containing Elisha's remains. As soon as the dead body came in contact with Elisha’s bones, he came back to life. This happened long after Elisha was dead; his bones retained the anointing. Though Elisha died sick, God’s power in him didn’t fail. We can conclude that it was Elisha that didn’t apply that power to his health. 

Philippians 2:10 says, “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth.” Use the Name of Jesus. Otherwise, the devil will prey on you. Use that Name to change the atmosphere in your home; use it to change the state of your health. Reign and rule over circumstances in His Name. I learnt very early, as a young Christian, how to put God’s Word to work. I wanted to deal with issues and situations right away using the Word. 

For example, back then, if I mistakenly dashed my foot against something, I’d immediately place my hand on it and say, “Heal, in Jesus’ Name!” I was learning to use authority. I might still experience some pain, but I found out I had no swelling and I knew it was supposed to swell. Instead of getting worse, it quickly got back to normal! If it was cut and I was bleeding, I’d say, “Seal up, in Jesus’ Name! No bleeding!” And I continued with whatever I was doing. I practiced the Word on my body, using the all-conquering Name of Jesus and the authority that He gave us.

God has all the power and ability; He is sovereign, but He doesn’t move in on your behalf or move into your situation to do things according to His discretion. He has chosen to work His power through you. You have a role in the operations of the miraculous and supernatural in your life. Get the power in you working, and bring it to bear on anything or any area of your life.

You’re supposed to apply the same authority Jesus gave you to heal the sick to your personal life. Christ the healer lives in you. Acknowledge this reality and function with this consciousness every day. When you do, everything that’s not of God – sickness, poverty, death, lack, failure, depression, and so on – will have no hold over you.
