People usually make resolutions to change something about themselves or the way they do things. Interestingly, your body does something similar periodically. Most of your body cells are replaced regularly; how much time it takes to completely replace all the cells depends on the type of cells. Over time, this process slows down, leading to the observable symptoms of aging. God designed your body to repair and refresh itself. As your body’s custodian, however, you have the responsibility to help the process along. In this article, we will explore a few things you can do to help your body regenerate and renew itself.
Wait Upon The Lord
The Bible says that “…they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength…” (Isaiah 40:31). Waiting on the Lord means devoting your time and energy to ministering to the Holy Spirit. You minister to the Spirit by offering spiritual sacrifices, giving thanks unto the Lord with the fruit of your lips – your words. When you do this, you will always be full of the Spirit and the joy of the Lord will well up within you. As you know, a joyful and cheerful heart does good like a medicine (Proverbs 17:22).
Sleep Well
The process of regeneration and repair is most active when you sleep. It is then that your body gets rid of toxins and repairs damage that may have occurred during the day. If you have work to do that will stretch into the night, try this: go to bed early, then get up in the early hours of the morning and get to work. You’ll find your energy is renewed, and your work will flow faster and easier.
Eat a Balanced Diet
Your body requires fuel and materials to rebuild and repair itself. That’s why you need to eat regularly. There are different classes of nutrients that the body requires to function and they are all important. You need carbohydrates and fats for energy, proteins to build the structures of your body’s cells, and vitamins and minerals to keep these processes working properly. A diet that includes all classes of food will go a long way to keep you looking and feeling fresh every day.
Exercise
In some ways, the human body is like an automobile. An automobile requires fuel and oil, but it also needs to be driven from time to time, or certain parts will begin to rust and degenerate. Exercising regularly will improve your sleep, improve your appetite, help you get rid of toxins faster, and generally leave you feeling lighter and younger.
Avoid Intoxicants and Stimulants
Intoxicants and stimulants like alcohol speed up aging. You should avoid them. The Word of God admonishes us thus: “be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 5:18-20).
Learn to joy in the Holy Ghost and to enjoy the presence of the Lord; He is the One who satisfies you with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s (Psalms 103:5).
