On a certain day, while Jesus and His disciples were returning from Bethany, He was hungry. Seeing a fig tree far off, He moved closer, hoping to find some figs. However, when He got to the tree, He found only leaves, because it wasn't yet the season for figs. Jesus then said to the fig tree, “…No one shall ever eat figs from you again…” The latter part says, “And His disciples heard it.” They heard when Jesus cursed the fig tree. The next day, as they passed by, the disciples observed that the fig tree had withered away. Peter, remembering what had happened, said to Him, “Master, look, the fig tree you cursed has withered away.” Responding, the Master said, “Have the faith of God” or “Have the God-kind of faith”. (Scripture reference - Mark 11:12-22).
The God-kind of faith is the faith that believes in the heart and speaks accordingly. Jesus taught us the power and importance of the spoken word – the Word in your mouth. As seen in the opening scripture, Jesus said, “…he shall have whatsoever he saith.” He didn't say you shall have what you mean; rather, He said you shall have what you say (Mark 11:23).
When it comes to words, there's no such thing as “I actually didn't mean it.” Consciously speak in accordance with the Word of God always – over your life, finances, business, health, etc. When you joke, don't joke against the Word.
Our confessions rule us. Proverbs 6:2 says, “Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth.” This “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith” (Mark 11:23). This verse of scripture underscores the precarious situations many have found themselves in today. They've been taken captive by their negative confessions; bound by their words. However, if you've been taught right, you'll think right, and the result of that is, you'll talk right. Moreover, when you talk right, you'll act right. When you act right, your life will turn out right.
Proverbs 18:20 says, “A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.” Here, the scripture isn't talking about how big your lips are. It's talking about the words of wisdom pouring out of your mouth. The next verse in Proverbs 18:21 tells us, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” This means you can speak life and reap a harvest of good things. Whatever you believe and voice out with your mouth is what's going to happen in your life. This is a law of the spirit, and it works, whether or not you believe it.
So, if you're not going to live a hungry life, then you're advised to speak the right words. If you don't want to be sick, speak health and divine life to your body. If you don't want to be broke, speak the right words – the God-kind of talk.
